DELIA FIAN

Join Delia for this TWILL SATCHELS x3 day workshop.

Over the x3 day workshop, wild weaver extraordinaire will be teaching students to create stunning Twill Satchels with bark from an assortment of trees and shrubs.

Students will weave intricate twill patterns, inspired by historic textiles, with the vibrant colours and textures of wild materials.

The workshop will also cover drafting original twill designs for baskets, processing and preparing bark, as well as how to create and weave on a form. Each participant will carry home a unique and ornate bag to inspire future journeys into the wild!

Delia gathers wild and invasive plants from edge spaces, along roadsides and in abandoned lots, transforming them into works of art. She weaves baskets for everyday use - to hold, to wear, to imbue the mundane with beauty and wonder. Her approach to basketry is rooted in her devotion to living a handmade life with her family in the mountains of southern Appalachia. Delia runs a non-profit organisation, through which she teaches basketry courses, including online programs with students from around the world. She also teaches through the National Basketry Organization (USA) and mentors emerging traditional craft artists through South Arts.
